The second child of Goau and Varie Fanel, Van Slanzar de Fanel was forced to take the throne when his older brother disappeared during a dragon slaying ritual. Van has vowed to finish what his brother was supposed to have done 10 years ago and claim the Drag-energist (the dragon's heart) to prove his worth as the king of Fanelia. He does all this but manages to get more when he is thrust into a war that he never ever dreamt of in his young life.
