Affiliated with Zaibach, Dilandau is a sadistic commander of Zaibach's Dragon Slayers (Ryuugekitai), an elite squad of young and good looking soldiers devoted to capturing Escaflowne. He rides the infamous red guymelef, Alseides, that burns everything in its path. He becomes obsessed with his quest to find Escaflowne's pilot, Van, and kill "the little squirt" who wounded his face in a fight. The scar that it leaves makes Dilandau go over the edge.

Spoiler: Dilandau is really Celena. Does that name ring a bell? Yup, the Celena who is Allen's long lost sister. Apparently, Dornkirk was conducting experiments on children and Celena just so happens to be an easy (or I prefer the word available) prey. That Dornkirk! He is such a genius! Heh-heh, that must be a very big blow for Dilandau lovers. Too bad he's really a girl.
