After the Second Impact, Misato's father died and she stopped talking and became mute for some time. When she grew up, she became talkative as if she was making up for not speaking before.

She joined NERV (like her college friends Ritsuko Akagi and Ryoji Kaji) and became the Head Commander Of Operations. She is also the guardian of Shinji and Asuka. Among Misato's bad habits are: drinking and being messy.
